A Christmas Poem

To All a Goodnight

He shuffled past houses brightly lit by
Christmas lights

And he pictured the families inside
enjoying Christmas eve night

The memories kept him warmer than
the clothes he wore

And he felt the spirit of Christmas when
he reached the church’s back door

He found a place on the steps and gently
brushed away the snow

There he sat and listened to the choir sing
the carols of long ago

Out of his pocket he took a sandwich that
he had saved for this special day

And he enjoyed his dinner while the beautiful
music drifted his way

At the stroke of midnight when the world was
at peace and all was right

With no money to give he left this poem instead
And said "Merry Christmas and to all a good night"

About WindWalker

My photo
The Magic of WindWalker
Darrell (WindWalker) Scarrett is an Aboriginal poet born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. In the earlier stages of his writing career an Aboriginal elder, after reading Darrell's poetry, observed: "He must walk upon the wind to gather the words he shares with people; much like the eagle that soars in the sky bringing back wisdom from the Creator." Thus the name WindWalker was bestowed upon him.
